This very clearly describes the experience I had with my father. He was a brilliant and artistic man that was reduced to a shell. I now know what it means to have a broken heart…to not be able to help or make things better. To try to pretend what isn’t normal is the new normal. Having to lie to the man I loved and respected, only to have him tell me he was going to die if he didn’t go home. He’s since passed of double pneumonia and I never thought I would be grateful for his passing, for his sake.
