I’ve stopped reading information about NPD and narc abuse as frequently as I did, but I still need to get some clarification. This article helped with questions I have about why certain people served as my now-ex-husband’s vanguard or cannon fodder.

He seriously had at least one of each type of person described around him at one time or other and saw them as interchangeable and disposable. He is a “lecturer” at the local university and sponsored/started student organizations so he could have a supply of impressionable, fawning students. Some individuals would call him out and he’d deploy his minions to bully, intimidate, cajole, or character assassinate offenders.

Discarding me was a blessing, but I didn’t know it at the time. I’d been in therapy awhile and already saw the cracks in the facade, but I thought I could help him. When I found myself at the receiving end of a smear campaign orchestrated by my then-husband and carried out by people I’d hosted and made cookies for, it felt surreal. I was stalked on social media, had people driving by my home, and felt afraid and ashamed to be anywhere public for months. It’s better now, but still bewildering.
