Ways to Invest in Your Private Practice

Like any relationship, your private practice needs attention. It can only give to you if you give to it. But what does that look like and does it always have to involve money? Buying your office furniture, setting up a beautiful websites are just a few drops in the bucket to meeting the needs of your practice. And yet, that is what we often focus on.
Here are ways to invest in your private practice so that it can flourish and grow.
Planning. Your private practice can be one that simply is reactive, putting out fires and waiting for the next shoe to drop. Life does happen and there are times where you have to respond to what is going on but planning can really give you a solid foundation from which to respond when things get tough. This looks like setting aside time to work on the business side of your business.
So get out your calendar and look at how much time you are giving your private practice outside of the services you provide. How often do you look at your numbers – not just your bank account, but number of referrals, analytics on your marketing plan, conversion rates, average length of treatment for clients and average fees? Making time for marketing, financial health and growth and business planning is when you fully engage in the nurturance of your private practice.
Training. I think of clinical training as a way we beef up our services. The better we become as clinicians, the better outcomes we will have and that will also increase personal referrals. There are free trainings¬†you can get through your association so a part of this doesn’t have to cost you at all. I also recommend getting clinical consultation as you grow in your profession. We all need someone further down the road to help guide us in our relationships with clients.
Self Care.¬†You are the biggest asset in your business and if you don’t care for yourself, it will impact your business. You love your work but that is not the only thing you need to be fulfilled in this life. Find hobbies, find a community, nurture your relationships, learn what you need to be happy and healthy. It looks different for all of us, but it’s important we walk our talk with clients.
