I’m a medical billing specialists and recently have been hired to bill for a LMFT who has her own group practice in New York. She has a couple pre-licensed therapist working with her. My question is how should these claims be submitted to an insurance company? Since they are not licensed yet they cannot get credentialed with insurances. Can you help or direct me on how I can find out the proper billing. Thank you

      Shawn,

This is a GREAT question! My experience has been that different insurance plans and contracts handle this situation differently. Also, each state has their own processes that sometimes inform what the insurance companies do. So, you will need to contact each of the companies that the provider contracts for, get their contract/provider manuals and/or talk to their liason to find out how that insurance company handles this, whether it is allowed, etc.
