    This is a really interesting approach. Could you please give some examples? A few made up scenarios would be helpful.

      Inner Child: I want to go spend time with that toxic person over there.
      Healthy Adult: I understand you want to be with that person, can you talk to me about it?
      Inner Child: He’s fun and exciting and I want to be touched.
      Healthy Adult: Yes, that makes sense, but, he’s not good for you. Let’s go find something else to do.
      Inner Child: But I want to spend time with him.
      Healthy Adult: I understand, but he’s not good for you. Remember the last time you were with him and he yelled at you? I can’t let that happen again because you’re too important. Let’s go to Starbucks instead.
